The big event of this week is of course the much anticipated AASOC AGM
(Ok so maybe it's just me who anticipates it but hey :P)! Along with
AASOC this week it will be held on Wednesday the 14th (i.e this
Wednesday) and replaces AASOC on Tuesday!
I REPEAT FOR THOSE WHO READ NOTHING THAT DOES NOT MENTION WHIPS OR IS
IN BLOCK CAPITALS - AASOC IS ON WEDNESDAY THIS WEEK AND THIS WEEK
ALONE, NOT ON TUESDAY SO IF YOU GO TO LT 2 ON TUESDAY DRESS AS A MOOGLE
This means that if you've an interest in helping make AASOC what it is
today then this is your chance to help! Positions that are open for
Description: A vicious overseer, a position requiring a degree in
animal taming beforehand! Not for the faint hearted, preferably
some experience in doing committee work before, though not a
requirement. Being a student at Edinburgh Uni is though!
You will be expected to:
i) Ensure AASOC runs smoothly on a regular basis, so attending series
night and making sure everything trundles on.
ii) Make sure each member of the committee knows what they're meant to
iii) Arrange committee meetings and schedule what needs to be sorted.
 Whip not included, but due to popular demand I will include ropes,
and Paul and Barry Chuckle costumes.
Description: One of the hardest, though most rewarding, jobs in the
Society! Amongst other tasks, you'll be in charge of:
i) Liaising with the Pleasance, so booking the film nights for the
society each semester.
ii) Talking to Anime companies in the UK, ensuring give-aways and
shinies for Freshers Week and Minicon.
iii) Taking minutes at the meetings.
iv) Writing the weekly emails along with the Events organiser.
Yes, this position does require you to have a basic grasp of the
English language and the ability to copy and paste details :P.
PS - Also requires you to be a matriculated student at Edinburgh Uni.
Description: Probably the most trusting position in the society. Your
responsibilities, should you want to fill this position include keeping
tabs of the societies money, making sure expenses are paid when
receipts are produced as well as helping in financial decisions of the
IMPORTANT: This position requires you to have been trained by EUSA
first to make sure you're responsible so I need you to email ASAP if
you are interested by this position so I can find the next training
date to put you on!
Description: Last year this position didn't get used as well as it
could have sadly!
Should you fill this position, you will be expected to:
i) Come up with ideas for events based on what everyone asks for.
ii) Arrange said events with help of the rest of the committee. This
includes making sure there is a line-up for film nights and Minicon.
A task that has varying responsibilities - primarily though making sure
break down at AASOC as well as ensuring items needed for screening are
there on the right
computer for the night!
Your job is to keep the library in good shape, inventory it and make it
accessible to members of AASOC as best you can! Plenty to be done here
if you have the enthusiasm for it!
This position could easily be filled by several people - one
particularly to design posters, flyers etc but many to put these
posters up as well as advertise AASOC events on the internets (such as
Livejournal, forums etc).
It's still not too late to email and stand for any position, so far we
have several people standing for positions via email who will be
attending on the day too, all unopposed so far (though it's not too
late to stand for them!), are for the following positions:
- Events Organiser
- Technical monkey
So most importantly I'd like particular 1st and 2nd year students who
have a lighter workload at present to consider the role of
Secretary as it sets you up nicely to learn the larger part about how
the society runs (yes, there even is some organization mixed
in there)! Likewise the following positions still need at least one
enthusiastic people willing to put something into AASOC to stand for
Likewise if anyone wants to stand for any of the positions listed
please just come along on the day and stand so long as someone else
Since nobody has emailed any matters of business for the AGM we'll give
a brief summary of AASOCs events over the year and then vote for the
committee for 2007-2008!
This week we'll definitely be showing:
Eureka Seven - Episodes 44 and 45
If everything runs quickly then we can have either Scrapped Princess 23
and/or Ouran 26 depending on what people want (keep in mind Ouran 26 is
the last in the series!)
Also re: End of Semester meal - we're arranging it for Bonsai again for
the week after this to celebrate the end of the semester (I think the
plan is for the dinner to be a week on Thursday at present), so please
email firstname.lastname@example.org if you are planning to attend so we can
get tables booked! Preferably by the end of the week!

 If nothing else it'll make the people in there for whatever the Uni
wanted the room for on Tuesday really confused and scared . Also if
you've not played Final Fantasy, the kupo reference may be wasted...
